Question: book published before 1999- Woman meets man from another world.

The book is abouy a woman who works in a shop and is drawn to a necklace
(portal for the man to come through) . He follows her home beats up her
microwave. They go to a sci -fi convention. Were they transport back to his
world. The hero in the story can not say her name correctly.That's all I
can remember.  This is a sci-fi romance

Pretty sure this is Knight of a Trillion Stars by Dara Joy. It's got the
necklace, the microwave-assault, and the sci-fi convention.
