Anyone know the name/author of a book about a group of kids (brothers &
sisters I think) who find a wood toy viking ship in an antique shop and
find that it's magic and takes them on adventures through time? I read it
back in the '70s but I think it may have been written around the turn of
the century, or in the 20's? Style reminded me of E.Nesbit but I'm pretty
sure it's not her. Thanks!

This is "The Ship That Flew" by Hilda Lewis, first published in 1939.

anything else on Earth. But this is no ordinary model. The ship takes Peter
and the other children on magical flights, wherever they ask to go. Time
after time the magic ship takes them on different exciting adventures, to
different countries, and to different times. And why should magic ever

Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to introducing it to my
nine-year-old son - I'm sure he'll enjoy it as much as I did at his age.
I have looked for that book for 20 years. I loved it as a child and
hoped to read to my then children (now in their 20's). I think it was
the magic ship or the ship of adventure (not enid Blytons). I seem to
remember the authoor was Lewis but not CS. Other than that I do not
know. If you ever find a copy, please share it with me x
The boy goes
to the dentist and buys the ship on his way home....it was brilliant.
